Granting Accessibility access

Why Mutter needs Accessibility to paste, and how to turn it on.

Mutter uses macOS Accessibility permission to do two things: register your global push-to-talk hotkey, and paste finished text into the app you’re using (it presses ⌘V for you). Without it, your words are still saved and copied to the clipboard, but they won’t auto-insert.

  1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
  2. Turn Mutter on. (Click + and add /Applications/Mutter.app if it isn’t listed.)
Privacy note. Accessibility lets Mutter send a paste keystroke to the focused app. Mutter does not read your screen or other apps’ contents.

If Accessibility looks enabled but auto-paste still doesn’t work, see Dictation stopped working after an update.
