Terms of service
Last updated June 16, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Mutter Voice, LLC, a Tennessee limited liability company (“Mutter,” “we,” or “us”) that operates the Mutter app for macOS and muttervoice.com. By creating an account, subscribing, or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Mutter.
Your account
Mutter is a paid product and requires an account. Your account is your license: it carries your plan and unlocks the app on your Macs. Keep your sign-in method secure, and do not share your account. You must be legally able to enter into this agreement to use Mutter.
Subscriptions and billing
- Mutter is sold as a subscription, billed monthly or annually, on the plans shown at muttervoice.com/pricing.
- Billing is handled by Polar, our merchant of record. Polar’s checkout terms apply to the payment itself.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel any time; your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for, and you are not billed again.
- Plan changes apply to your existing subscription in place, with proration handled by the billing provider.
- Prices may change. If they change for a plan you are on, we will tell you in advance and the new price applies from your next renewal.
- If you believe a charge is wrong, contact support@muttervoice.com and we will sort it out.
Your license
While your subscription is active, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Mutter app on Macs you own or control. The app, the website, and the Mutter name and marks remain ours. You may not resell, rent, or sublicense Mutter, and you may not reverse engineer it except where the law allows it regardless of this clause.
Acceptable use
Use Mutter lawfully. Do not abuse the cloud services, including attempting to bypass plan quotas or entitlements, hammering the transcription or cleanup endpoints with automated traffic, or using them for anything other than dictation through the product. We may throttle or suspend accounts that abuse the service.
Fair use of cloud features
Paid plans include cloud-based features — such as cloud transcription, Intent Mode, and other AI-assisted features — for normal, individual use. To keep these features reliable, sustainable, and fair to everyone, we may set, apply, and adjust reasonable usage limits, and we may offer higher-usage tiers for customers whose needs exceed typical use. Where a new or changed limit would meaningfully affect normal use of a plan you are on, we will give you advance notice. This is separate from the Acceptable use section above, which addresses misuse.
Your content
What you dictate is yours. We claim no rights over your dictations, your transcripts, or your history. Transcription and automatic cleanup are imperfect: review the output before you rely on it. Mutter produces text from your speech; it does not provide legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice, and you are responsible for what you do with the text it produces.
Privacy
How we handle your voice, your history, and your account data is described in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.
Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep Mutter fast and reliable, but cloud features depend on networks and providers and may occasionally be unavailable. Private, on-device transcription keeps working offline. We may improve, change, or discontinue features over time; if we discontinue something material to your plan, we will tell you.
Disclaimers
Mutter is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that transcription will be accurate or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these terms or the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Termination
You can stop using Mutter and cancel your subscription at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or abuse the service. On termination your license ends; your local history remains on your Mac and is yours.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. If a change is material we will update the date above and give you notice before it takes effect. Continuing to use Mutter after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest of the terms remain in effect.
